Boldly painted in rich cobalt blue, the interior of the dish centers on a prominent ‘shou’ 壽 (longevity) character encircled by a medallion of meandering vines and curling tendrils. The wide cavetto is further adorned with scrolling vines and tendrils with ‘heaping and piling’ effect of the cobalt blue. The base is inscribed with the characters 吉日立庚申 (Jiri li gengshen), which can be interpreted as “Established on an Auspicious Day of the Gengshen Year.
