Austria-born Alfred Pawlin was one of the earliest gallerist in Thailand, having founded Visual Dhamma Gallery in Bangkok in 1981. His interest in art, music and spirituality, especially Buddhism led him to be an important promoter of the works of many significant Thai artists working broadly with Buddhist iconography including Pratuang Emjaroen and Pichai Nirand.
Read Apinan Poshyananda’s eulogy to Alfred Pawlin in the Bangkok Post here.
“Mastering the art of drawing needs constant practice. Both eyes and hands must work in cooperation with the mind that has gained constant peace and serenity through meditation. Lines, then, can be freely drawn without preconceived ideas of forms or expression methods. Whenever we can feel the energy that flows through those lines, our spirits are free and joyful. In that very moment we can reach out to beauty and can create works of art without ending.” – Pratuang Emjaroen, 1992
