Ming Dynasty
Description
D: 20 cm (8 in)
H: 4 cm (1.75 in)
Boldly painted in a deep cobalt blue, the dish is centered with a lively scene of two spotted deer striding amid rockwork and stylized foliage, beneath a pine tree. The cavetto is divided into radiating panels of alternating fruit sprays and geometric patterns. The rim is distinctively barbed and the exterior is decorated with simple floral sprigs spaced around the body. The dish displays typical firing flaws including kiln adhesions and minor glaze contractions around the footrim, consistent with Zhangzhou export wares produced during the late Ming dynasty.
